Roll For Vigilante v.01

Here is the next in my playlets content games, using the Roll For system I gave created. This one is about Vigilantes. A tabletop roleplaying game about heroes saving the day. These folk do not have superpowers. They see a need and they go and fight crime, taking down criminal weirdos. They are flawed. They are niche in their thinking. They are extreme. But they might be all we have.

Content is playlets, and images are placeholder stock images. See full rules here: Roll For Vigilante v.01

Hero and Identity Generator from Roll For Vigilante

I have used the same systems in creating this game. They have the same powers, and abilities in the last game. The main stat of Priest is replaced with Vigilante. The Other Abilities are replaced with the following:

Prayers -> Heroic Moves

Call For Help -> Consult Mentor

Turn -> Invoke Moral Code

Resurrect -> Iconic Inspiration

Heroic Moves for Roll For Vigilante

This was an interesting project to work on. I have been reading a lot about game design. One element of common discourse is that the mechanics of the game must fit the theme of your game. So it feels counterintuitive to write a follow up game with a different theme and setting for the same Roll For mechanics. Deep down, there is an overlap in the sorts of stories that could fit together with the two types of player characters in the games. There is also a level of the pathetic aesthetic that overlaps here, between the two systems. They are different in scope, and obviously this game has no magical powers. These are merely genre considerations. Think of this as the same scope of baad person, but instead of fantasy, it is street-heroic. It is a great freeing exercise in creativity when the bulk of the work is done, and you can just focus on the flavour. This game gives the same amount of creative flexibility in how the powers are used, by not providing guidance. It is quick to start by having rolls to build your backstory, character, adventure seeds and tools. If I am honest, I can’t wait to write more of these. See more in the future.
