Growth & Growth II - A Deconstruction
On the 24th of July, 2022, I released a Live Takes called Growth. This week I talk about it and the revision of the work I made named Growth II.
The original is drone exploration that explores the inner growth within. There is a spacey and introspective feel throughout. This is achieved through the use of the iconic 80s synth sounds that grow and swell (made from the Korg Minilogue XD). The descending synth pops and the pulsing kicks from the Arturia Drumbrute, help to drive the song along. Long held notes from The Korg Wavestate pulse and ring in the background - filling the higher frequency spectrum. A vibrating and oscillating drone, made by the Arturia Minibrute, speeds up and cycles around the other work, filling the lower end of the frequency spectrum. There is even more lift off with the change in LFOs of the various synths. Of course the Squarp Pyramid, is the heart of this machine. A drive grows from within us all. It must be sat and listened to, at times. Take a moment and really listen to what is within. The repetition, and slow change is eerie and stately at the same time. I have a special place in my heart for this track. It was a Live Takes work that I have been ruminating on for a while. The growth I felt from expressing this work, is hard to explain. I hope the work speaks for itself there.
Growth II was released on 20th August, 2022. It is an extended revision of the original piece. I have recontextualized this work with sped up and slower video layers. The unique outcome is a much slower yet, more changing experience. The nearly 30 minute work has periods of noise that sounds beyond otherworldly. There are quick peaks that showcase the speed ups. The frequency range is much wider. The urgency and tension are increased, and contrasted with periods of slow movement. The inner of the human has been moved further out to the barriers of time and space. There are pulses that terrify, and long drones that delight my soul. Sections of this work, open into bellies of foul beasts. Much like the soul of myself. There is tension in the growth of the soul. One should embrace this slow movement and accept the pain that is suffered, in order to truly develop. The beauty of the swells ignite a passion for further delves into the depths of my insides.
