D66 Encounters and Adventures for a Tabletop RPG

Hello all, below I have drafted some ideas for encounters or whole adventures for roleplaying games. Roll 2 d6 (one for the list and one for the index), to pull up an idea. Lots of them have taken inspiration from media, as all good idea and art does. These are things that have come to me and I have written down as I have thought of them.

  1. A duck man takes people through a maze - asks them to make a map

  2. The cyclops arises!

  3. A dungeon in someone’s mind where we are all shrunk down - the PCs explore emotion rooms

  4. A legend to reunite GollyGlum the frog man with his family. The frog fella is short and bumbly. Only y’all when legs extended. He needs protection through the smokey swamp. He got separated years ago and can’t find his way back as there is a giant fish creature in the way he can’t get by. They aren’t actually that far - maybe a day’s travel. Just the smoke. He wants them to stay with him and his family for a night in case they have gotten weird. Some of the more “traditional/tribal” ones try to eat the PCs.

  5. A rotating dungeon worth a key like the Dec chaos music ones

  6. A fire friend (friendly firefly of giant size) likes to chat and hear stories. Can help you with a mystery if you’re nice to it. It has a 50s style “oh gosh golly mister how did you get out of that one”

  1. Desert Roo!

  2. :// digital world hacks and plugs in. Could be half in real world protecting and half in the digital

  3. A mad fishing challenge at a lake full of sentient fish that want to be caught.

  4. A spaceship that was buried by rock many years ago - now called the caves of wonder!

  5. A high noon shoot out with a gun that will insta kill- a compared speed check. The others will jump into initiative if they want to help but they will lose reputation if they assist.

  6. A crop in under a tent that hides a big farmer that makes an evil spore that paralyses (on no save) and eats three people, he wears a gas mask or has a salve under their nose to protect themself

  1. A mad scientist has created an unstable rift opener and closer gun. You have to track him down before he destroys the fabric of reality

  2. When the party dies they are brought to the realm of a god. They are met by an Angel who takes an incomprehensible form. They are asked to bring the lord’s two children back from hell. One was tempted and the other went searching and was captured. If they are caught the god will not save them or speak knowledge of this quest. But if you bring them back, he will grant their lives back. The son and the daughter are in the 6th circle of hell. And must be returned.

  3. Giant otters that get in the way of you by splashing and playing pushing and accidentally capsize your boat. River pirates are trying to chase you down and the otters are in the way. Fun and only sort of intelligent

  4. A double agent, someone who is in deep cover, but turns out they are actually evil. Set up to go in and save them somehow, maybe act as a capture. But she turns on them at the end. Maybe someone they have met before so it has more tension, and they wouldn’t believe it.

  5. Goblin who stabs your food into the ground to pin you in place. Runs away and shoots you with bow or blow dart

  6. 12 headed beast - mechanic is roll a single d6 for each head to hit on a 6 it does 6 damage

  1. A cursed item that creates haunting spirit or weird otherworldly alien that feeds off violence making people violent, all attacks do more damage and have advantage

  2. The loot needs attention!

  3. Bust a criminal out of prison from the syndicate: either by central Bureaucracy building (take ages and they are sentenced to death), the guards (their honor on the line or owe something to a dodgy guard), their sway (the council - their rep down and potentially a no) or just plain old heist: (criminals themselves) each will have consequences

  4. You must pick up something small, so you’re shrunk down to the human world but mouse sized or turned into mice. You have to go to a gaming store to collect a figure or card that actually has a trapped soul in it. There is a 40k or DND tournament in there, food galore, people hate mice

  5. A wolverine follows the tracks of a larger animal and will fight off larger foes for its food. Once the party are attacked by a larger enemy, either when healing or when one goes down, the wolverine strikes in the deep woods

  6. A giant lizard that lives in a swap with an acid breath. It’s skin  melts weapons. The swamp is the home with hallucinogenic gasses and frogs around that lizard folk who worship or use the frog poison to poison people  - swamp leeches where if you fail a save and they latch on and you don’t know.

  1. Commune with the spirit on the mountain for information - meet figure up top wearing animal skins. Seems really sketchy, like there is not deity. Requires offering of piety. Dude needs cash and works there 9-5 (other than special miracles) to answer questions. People who really believe have their questions answered. Otherwise they get money taken off them. If asked why for hours and money “gotta provide for my people”.

  2. The giant bird a top a massive tree or mountain. It’s lawful good but controls the wind and air around it with its personality

  3. In the city, you hear someone being whipped for mentioning name of old ruler of the wasteland. “Don’t speak his name, he will never be back. He brought so much hurt to the world”

  4. A legend to solve the curse of the bone witch. A Wiccan creature who uses bone magic to get back at those who wronged her. Someone who takes her boney arm as a wand, gets boney magic but on a roll of a 1 begins transforming into a bone witch. Spells: fuse bones, melt bones, bone cage, bone pillar… she is destroyed by cutting off her wand

  5. Like the lizard above take each dnd dragon and turn it into a one of a kind beast (one of which a dragon) - like a lighting bird, a water serpent, a fire cat etc

  6. The part finds a woman in a cage begging to be let out hanging in a tree. A beautiful woman saying goblins did it (in an area probs not goblins) it’s actually a witch who is bound there someone needs to willingly let her out. She will make a deal to give power (for secret corruption) and make a pact with the party member.

  1. There is a giant monster that’s destroying the town that weapons don’t hurt. It moves away and re-emerges later (giant slug, or giant whale, giant snake, giant golem)

  2. Witness the migration of the giant crabs. Poachers are trying to kill them to take their shells. They will defend themselves but mostly are harmless. They can be ridden with the relevant check. And if you’re shown to be not dangerous. When they shed their shells, that’s the time to take them for use of armour and selling.

  3. A bloody thirsty barbarian is on a blood rage and they are killing without remorse, can’t be spoke too, frothing from the mouth. When subdued they see needle marks on his neck and green medicine around the wound. Suspicious?!

  4. An old decrepit sea captain wants to go on one last sea journey. And needs the party’s help. He wants to go to a dangerous part of the ocean and see this specific sun set again. He is super kind and knowledgeable and gets through the dangerous journey but wants to be their friend even if he doesn’t keep all his promises. He promises payment but he reveals that half way all he can leave is his boat that can shrink (At the end. He slips into the ocean and they see a giant fish emerge and wave) - meet them in the blended world and he wants to go to the clean world.

  5. (trigger warning) Get someone important out of a cult - it’s got whack views but this cult is powerful, fighting them could be an option but it mightn’t be the most effective- (wouldn’t want to be seen fighting a quasi legit religious org)

  6. 50 small men (think kobolds) in a trapped lair, slits for arrows, annoying pit traps, fire and oil- find them cooking, praying to statues
