Rift Walker Luminvale Campaign Overview & Thoughts (19-20)
Monuments of the Grove
The group was told previously that in Whimsy Wood, is the Monuments of the Grove, and ancient Ziggurat that acts as the original house of the Seal of Connection. They first saw a maze of thick vines. After taking much longer than expected, and with many issues, they finally got through. They found a few rooms, with carvings of ancient peoples protecting the temple. They found a bunch of sundials that could alter time. Moving deep into the past or bring themselves to the present. With these they saw the walls take different forms, and unlocked other parts of the temple. Through this, Fish spoke to some flowers who told the secrets of their past, who they were before their amnesia kicked in. Barnaby found out that the Maestro’s plans and recent actions. The group stumbled upon some ancient obelisks that could radically alter them and change their abilities, making them more ready for the fight ahead. All but Barnaby partook in the seasonal powers of the obelisks. They were followed by a music note that was in a bubble, that was recording them. After finding out it was a tool of the maestro, the group killed it. The group uncovered a group of training guards that lead them to confront the final challenge ahead. In here, DJ got them to groove instead of attack!
Twist Through Time at the Plant Temple
The group found that the group of guards, all with Viney bodies were all lead by an ancient sabre tooth tiger. The fought valiantly with Barnaby and Fish dispatched the guards. The tiger attacks them with serious force, critically wounding DJ. Fish weakens it the beast enough, while DJ clears the path for the battle. Barnaby manages to do some serious damage to it, while DJ finally finished it. After this the group walks into the last chamber of there temple. In here DJ is given a choice, of the protection vines of the fiery claws. They take the vines, which can turn the rings into a protective armour. The group decides to visit the air temple next.
Thoughts
I have enjoyed the creation of some great maps for fights. I have been using the method of creating 3 abstract zones, each with enemies and a unique terrain piece or improvised element to interact with. I have been using a little camera setup to capture this. I realised in these sessions, that I will create smaller dungeons for the temples, with the 2 hour sessions, I need to make smaller spaces and have more engaging spaces with less rooms. I am excited to make more of these temples, and give the players more ways to make choices. I am focussing on the ways the Maestro’s plans can be stopped and engaged with by the players.
The Camera setup I have been using.
