30 Lessons For My 30th
This week I write about some things I have learnt and thought about life. As I turn 30 this week, I thought I would list 30 things I have learnt that might help someone out there. Enjoy!
Do creative work, in small doses, consistently. It’s more sustainable and rewarding.
Kindness is best done in many micro-transactions, rather than a few big gestures.
If dressing up as an elf in the woods with a sword and shield makes you happy; then please go be happy. Don’t let anyone put down your hobbies.
Building good culture at work should be focused on improving the actual procedures at work. Not the occasional pizza party.
It’s always better to let the hate go.
The only motto you need is: “Do better, incrementally.” This applies to everything, including goal setting.
Write whatever comes most naturally. Don’t force something that isn’t there. I think the poets call this “the muse”.
As I get older, I genuinely understand and appreciate the phrase “live, laugh, love”.
As a manager, care about outcomes, rather than methods.
A good relationship takes work, from all parties.
Listening, empathising and mediating usually is the answer to most conflicts.
Good music comes in all genres. Don’t let anyone tell you not to listen to “that genre”.
Do whatever you want in life as long as it doesn’t negatively impact people or the planet.
It’s actually easy to make small sustainability changes. But big business and governments need to step up and take accountability.
Spend time with people who bring the happiness out in you. Don’t bother for those that don’t.
It’s ok to be the one who is emotionally affected by life changing events. Crying is beautiful.
Be generous for those that deserve it.
The simplest idea is typically the right course of action.
Don’t be a dick.
Get the toughest thing out of the way first.
A great game master is focused on the players, simplicity and fun.
Generative music should be texturally focussed.
Sing loudly, let it out and express yourself. Who cares what strangers think.
Find that special person and do everything in your power to keep them. That argument isn’t worth it.
Ego is usually the enemy.
Be considerate of all folks, plants and animals. It really is that easy.
Balance isn’t usually 50/50. It’s a see-saw. But make sure things swing both ways.
Short term pain, long term gain is important to remember.
Music is the gateway to paradise.
Keep up the work, keep up the work, keep up the work.
